The North Township School District has developed a Crisis Response Plan that is designed to minimize danger to anyone occupying a school should an emergency occur. Our main objective is to attend to the health and welfare of your children in the event of a crisis.
In most emergencies, your children will remain and be cared for at the school they attend. In the rare event of an emergency that prohibit reentry to a school building (such as broken gas or water main, a fire, or a toxic spill), students will be transported via school transportation/or walk to the nearest and most appropriate location.
Parents/guardians will be notified via ParentSquare as soon as feasibly possible of any emergency at their child's school. The district/school will also post information on its website as necessary.
We ask that you follow this procedure if you hear of any school emergency:
Please do not telephone the school. We have limited phone lines. These MUST be used to respond to an emergency.
Please do not come to the school unless you are requested to pick up your child. Any emergency involving your child's school may mean emergency vehicles and workers must be able to get to the building. If the emergency necessitates relocation of staff and students, you will be informed via ParentSquare.

The school district has implemented a notification/communication system to inform the families of students of important information like school closings due to snow and updates when there are emergencies in our schools. Families of North Brunswick Public School students are automatically registered for this service that uses the home and cell phone numbers that families have provided to the school district as contact phone numbers to make the notifications.
Whenever school is closed (or there is a delayed opening or early closing due to inclement weather) or there is a school emergency, the families of students will automatically be contacted using the contact information families provide. If you do not receive these messages , please contact the Board of Education offices at (732) 289-3000.
In the event of an emergency evacuation, North Brunswick Township Schools has a reunification process in place to account for all students and staff, and to ensure the orderly return of all students to authorized parents/guardians. Please know that your student(s) will be cared for by school personnel during the entire process, and that the reunification process is designed for accuracy.
Please be advised that this will be a lengthy process and we ask for your patience during the process.
Parents/guardians can help to ensure a smooth process by making sure that you update emergency information in Genesis with your most current contact information, including the names, email addresses and phone numbers of people who have permission to pick up your child. Please also make sure that you are receiving messages via ParentSquare. If you need help updating your information in Genesis or accessing ParentSquare, please contact your child’s school.
COMMUNICATION PROCESS:
All official communications will come from the Superintendent and/or their designee throughout an emergency, and will be sent as soon as possible using: ParentSquare, District & School Websites, Social Media, and/or Press Releases (as available and appropriate).
Please do not respond to any incoming ParentSquare messages, emails or text messages. These accounts are not monitored.
Due to the high volume of incoming calls and text messages, you may not be able to contact your student via their mobile device.
Please do not call the school, as phones may be in use for emergency communications.
REUNIFICATION PROCESS:
Students will NOT be released to parents/guardians at the impacted site! Do NOT come to the affected site as it may impact emergency responders’ access and/or our ability to safely transport students to an offsite location. All students/staff will be boarding buses for transportation to their designated off-campus reunification site.
Parents/Guardians will be notified about the reunification location at the appropriate time.
Please limit the number of emergency contacts that respond to the reunification location.
Students will only be released to authorized emergency contacts listed in Genesis with photo identification who are older than 18 years of age.
Once checked in at the reunification location, you will be required to complete a Student Reunification Form.
School personnel will be on-site to verify that your student is only released to the emergency contacts listed in Genesis that you have previously authorized.
Once school personnel confirm your identity and ensure you are authorized to pick up the student(s) you have requested, you will move to a holding area where you will receive updates and wait to be called for reunification with your student(s). You will then be escorted to the reunification room where your student(s) will be brought to that same room to meet you.
Our first priority is always the safety of our students and staff, directly followed by accurate communication to families.
